The Hotel was built in 1887 by Martha Swycaffer, it was moved to it's current location on River street in 1893. It was owned and operated by the Swycaffer family for 54 years. In 1941 it was sold to Clark Thompson and Eldon Petzoldt. Later owned by Howard Shaff, the hotel underwent an extensive remodel including the removal of the wooden porch, it was replaced buy a concrete one, the front of the building was stuccoed white and ...3 bedrooms on the ground floor were removed to make room for a dining room and dance floor adjoining the bar. In the end of the 1950's it was sold to PJ York who sold it to Jake and Katherine Appelhans in 1968. From there it got a reputation as a "rough and tumble" bar where any given night of the week you were sure to see a fight. In 1995 it was bought by Jerry May and turned into a recovery home and coffee bar. In the summer of 2011 the hotel underwent another remodel this time installing a kitchen next to the bar, and opening it's doors to the public for a homemade breakfast, deli sandwich at lunch or a bite of BBQ. Also, a full service espresso bar with specialty drinks. We will still be offering various meetings held in our meeting room. We hope that you will stay tuned for upcoming events, support our endeavors and look forward to joining us on this new adventure! See you soon!(Historical info.collected by Kyla Sears)
